Desolation Canyon & Sand Wash
GreyDes is one on the area’s most spectacular river trips. It is a true wilderness and a beautiful canyon. The flight takes us north of the town of Green River and through the gap that marks the end of the Bookcliffs, which by the way, is the longest unbroken escarpment in the world! We then land at the Sand Wash backcountry airstrip, which is the put in for the river trip. We’ll hike the very scenic trail to the BLM ranger station and boat ramp. You’ll have a chance to cool off in the Green River and have lunch before climbing back to the helicopter. Hikers will need to be prepared for travel in the desert. Moab Heli X will supply a “what to bring list”. Food and beverages are included.

Safety is paramount to all our tours. Our helicopters are meticulously maintained. Since we do venture into remote places we carry a full array of communications equipment including a satellite phone, portable tracking device, as well as onboard Emergency Locator Transmitters. Each aircraft is also equipped with survival and medical equipment.
Moab Heli X operates the Robinson R44 II and R66 Turbine Helicopters.
The R44’s aerodynamic fuselage optimizes airspeed and fuel economy. Hydraulic controls eliminate feedback forces and provide responsive handling. A low tail-rotor tip speed, newly designed muffler, and large cambered tail reduce flyover noise. These four-seat helicopters are high-performing, reliable, and easy to maintain. With a great view from any seat, and the latest in Robinson technology, our aircraft are a great way to view the vast and remote areas that Moab has to offer.
Raven II helicopters are powered by a Lycoming IO-540 fuel-injected engine. The IO-540 delivers better altitude performance and increased payload.
R66 TURBINE five-seat helicopters are reliable, economical, and easy to maintain. The R66’s spacious 300 lb capacity baggage compartment along with the powerful Rolls Royce RR300 turbine engine provides greater utility. The lightweight RR300 engine operates on readily available Jet A fuel, delivering increased reserve power, additional payload, and improved altitude performance. The R66 meets the FAA’s current crashworthiness regulations with energy-absorbing seats and a crash-worthy fuel system.
