Horsethief Ranch / Canyonland Guides & Outfitters
Located in the Island in the Sky, the ranch site was once a basecamp for Anasazi hunting parties and eventually a frequent hideout for the legendary outlaw Butch Cassidy. This classic, completely self-contained horse property has been beautifully restored.
The property includes 5 acres hidden in a box canyon framed by red stone cliffs and surrounded by 11,000 acres of grazing land, a historic hand-built stone ranch house with 500-year-old cedar beams, an oasis of organic fruit trees, and spring-fed gardens.
Canyonland Guides & Outfitters operates a number of exciting adventures from Horsethief Ranch. Moab Heli X provides helicopter tours to this historic site where you will experience the magic of the area. Horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking, trail running, pack rafting, yoga, 4X4 tours, and camping are on the list. Being only 15 minutes away from the heli-base, we can shuttle large-sized groups and service custom itineraries.

Safety is paramount to all our tours. Our helicopters are meticulously maintained. Since we do venture into remote places we carry a full array of communications equipment including a satellite phone, portable tracking device, as well as onboard Emergency Locator Transmitters. Each aircraft is also equipped with survival and medical equipment.
Moab Heli X operates the Robinson R44 II and R66 Turbine Helicopters.
The R44’s aerodynamic fuselage optimizes airspeed and fuel economy. Hydraulic controls eliminate feedback forces and provide responsive handling. A low tail-rotor tip speed, newly designed muffler, and large cambered tail reduce flyover noise. These four-seat helicopters are high-performing, reliable, and easy to maintain. With a great view from any seat, and the latest in Robinson technology, our aircraft are a great way to view the vast and remote areas that Moab has to offer.
Raven II helicopters are powered by a Lycoming IO-540 fuel-injected engine. The IO-540 delivers better altitude performance and increased payload.
R66 TURBINE five-seat helicopters are reliable, economical, and easy to maintain. The R66’s spacious 300 lb capacity baggage compartment along with the powerful Rolls Royce RR300 turbine engine provides greater utility. The lightweight RR300 engine operates on readily available Jet A fuel, delivering increased reserve power, additional payload, and improved altitude performance. The R66 meets the FAA’s current crashworthiness regulations with energy-absorbing seats and a crash-worthy fuel system.
